Halloween Spectacular returns to downtown Sault Friday Sault Ste. Marie’s downtown is prepping for its annual Halloween Spectacular, which will be held this Friday evening. But those will not be the only places kids can pick up some candy. “We’re seeing more charities and (non-profit groups) coming downtown to participate in the trick-or-treating, along with our downtown businesses,” Knepper said. Over the past few years, the DDA has worked with other groups to bring haunted houses downtown and this year is no exception. The Soo Theatre’s “Wicked Woods” will be open from 5-7 p.m., and the Rotary Haunted House above the Haunted Depot (prepared with help from Malcolm High School students) will run from 5:30-8 p.m. Admission to both is $3. The hay rides, presented by event sponsors Gage Family Farms and Charles J. Palmer, PC, will operate from 5-7 p.m.

The City's Public Works and Engineering Services Department would like to inform residents that the last drop-off day of the year at the Household Hazardous Waste Depot (HHW) will be October 28, 2017. The facility will reopen in the Spring 2018. Residents are encouraged to bring acceptable household hazardous waste items to the HHW located at 402 Fifth Line East (City Landfill). Items such as paint, varnishes, pesticides, pool chemicals, drain cleaners, motor oil, antifreeze, propane cylinders, electronics and clean packaging Styrofoam are accepted. All services provided by the HHW are FREE of charge to Algoma District residents with no gate fee required. Never put hazardous waste in the garbage or down the drain.
